What is Harpazo? Harpazo is the Greek word translated as caught up in the following passage. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. The meaning of harpazo is ‘to seize, catch up, snatch away.’ This is what is commonly referred to as the Rapture. At the time of this event, the those who have died trusting in Christ will be raised to immortality and those who are alive and in Christ will also be transformed to immortality and raised with them to meet Him in the sky. These are those who will be kept from the hour of trial, as declared in Revelation 3:10. The hour of trial is referred to in the Bible as Jacob’s trouble or great tribulation, which will be a 7 year period of great calamity over the entire earth, at the end of which Jesus will descend to the Mount of Olives and begin the millennial reign.
